Mitchell Airport named ‘Official Airport' of Lake County Fielders baseball team
MKE teams up with northern Illinois' new baseball team to reach northern Illinois travelers
Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport (MKE) steps up to the plate as the Official Airport of the new Lake County Fielders baseball team. Airport officials view its sponsorship of the Zion, Ill.-based team, owned by actor and baseball buff Kevin Costner, as a strategic opportunity to engage with the northern Illinois community.
"Having a presence in the heart of Lake County – home for many of our frequent business and leisure travelers – is one way we can show our allegiance to this market, and help keep Mitchell Airport top of mind as an smart alternative to other Chicago airports," says airport spokesperson Patricia Rowe. The airport has long positioned itself as an accessible, affordable and convenient alternative to O'Hare.
Rowe says the leading reasons northern Illinois travelers book round trip flights out of Mitchell Airport versus O'Hare include reasonable parking fees, the ease and comfort of flying out of a less crowded airport, and less expensive fares that are, on average, $81 less than O'Hare and less than 90 other U.S. airports, according to the latest U.S. Department of Transportation statistics (3rd Quarter 2009).
As the Official Airport of the Lake County Fielders, Mitchell Airport will present:
- "Vegas Night," sending a pair of lucky fans from MKE to Las Vegas for a weekend getaway
- "How Far Did It Fly?" in-stadium promotion following of every Fielders homerun
- MKE promotional night where the first 2,000 fans receive a special gift
- Participation in Fielders Fan Fest and other kick-off events throughout the community
"We are proud to be the Official Airport of the Lake County Fielders and look forward to sharing America's favorite pastime with northern Illinois fans. We are committed to the community and providing convenient, affordable travel," said airport director Barry Bateman.
Located 45 minutes north of the Lake Forest Oasis on 1-94, MKE offers nonstop service to 48 cities nationwide and one-stop connections to hundreds of cities worldwide. One of the few U.S. airports to experience growth in 2009, MKE served nearly 8,000,000 travelers, and welcomed Southwest Airlines to its roster of low-cost carriers. Visitors to www.FlyMKE.com, the airport's Web site dedicated to Illinois travelers, can compare airfares and parking fees between Mitchell and O'Hare.
